
Nokia Heads EU's PROACTIF Robotics for Infrastructure and Safety

- Nokia leads PROACTIF, an EU-funded robotics project for critical infrastructure and emergency management.
- Project to develop advanced eco-efficient unmanned vehicle systems for European civil security.
- Expected to generate €90M by 2035, create jobs, and secure 15 patents.
Finnish technology company Nokia has been appointed to head the robotics and unmanned technology program PROACTIF, which is supported by the EU’s Chips Joint Undertaking. Through the project, 42 European companies from 13 countries to address key issues related to monitoring and responding to emergencies in Europe.
The goal of PROACTIF is to increase the technology skills and growth of Europe in enterprise control systems of enterprise (ECS) and in the drone and robotics sectors. Nokia made it clear that the initiative will change the way emergency and infrastructure management is done by building advanced, money-saving, and environmentally friendly and secure unmanned vehicles for Europe’s civil security.
It is expected that by 2035, the project will fetch approximately €90 million in revenue based on 50 new products which will lead to 15 patents. It will center on working on nine innovative technology parts and five advanced UxV platforms, stressing how they can work together, be self-driven and reach Europe quickly for its needs and markets.

According to Nokia, PROACTIF will support the formation of new partnerships, lead to the creation of multiple jobs and draw extra investments worth over €40 million. This initiative is meant to set new standards for drones and robotics in safety and urgent operations, supporting Europe’s vision for both sustainability and security.

We are honoured to lead this project,” said Thomas Eder, head of embedded wireless solutions at Nokia. “By collaborating with leading organisations, this initiative will address critical challenges in security and sustainability, delivering real-world benefits for society.”
Through PROACTIF, Nokia and its partners aim to position Europe as a global leader in innovative, secure, and sustainable unmanned technologies, strengthening the continent’s technological sovereignty and societal resilience.
